Janna McFerson is from Placentia, California. In the Summer 2005 after returning from her mission, Janna was called as a committee member on the Placentia 4th (P4) YSA Ward FHE Committee. Her first FHE calling ever. In the Fall of 2005, she was called as an "FHE Mom" for her senior year in the Brigham Young University (BYU) 39th Ward. After graduation, Janna returned to P4, and was called as the FHE Chairperson - her third FHE calling. She served as the P4 FHE Chair for over two years (an accumulation of four years in YSA FHE). Janna has also served as an Institute of Religion Council President, full-time missionary (Spain Barcelona Mission 2003-2004), Relief Society and Gospel Doctrine Teacher, and Relief Society President. Janna graduated from BYU in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications (emphasis in Broadcast Journalism). In 2010, she completed a Certificate in Television Writing (Half-Hour Comedy track) through the UCLA Extension Writers' Program.
